Biography & Artist's Statement


My first real interest in photography began at an RAF photo reconnaissance darkroom in England in 1952. It was a magical world of dim ruby lights, where the pictures of the day's missions came to life.

During the intervening sixty plus years, I have led workshops, lectured and exhibited my work in a variety of venues. I've shown work locally, nationally and internationally in a mixture of one-man as well as group shows.

As for the result of all this, I'm hopeful that my pictures stimulate ideas, provoke conversation and of course please the eye.


My education in fiber arts began in 1968 by taking classes offered by the Weavers Guild and Edgecliff College. I continued learning about the medium by attending classes and workshops.

Beyond being enjoyable, teaching classes and workshops for 35 years has enhanced my interest and abilities as a fiber artist.


The goal of this collaborative project between Millie and Jerry Stratton was to render photographic images via the loom. After testing many different approaches, dye sublimation to transfer the images and the Theo Moorman technique for the weaving seem to produce the clearest and richest result.

This process requires that the photographic image be transferred to both sides of the fabric and the resultant image stripped to provide the weft material. Since the weaving process takes up length, the image length must be increased by the proper proportion to compensate. An uncut sample is presented with a finished piece (Window Painting). Once a weaving is completed, a rich, textured version of the image is the result.
