We just closed the most recent exhibit in our gallery. Though young, Lindsay Mauger has accumulated a formidable and diverse body of work in fiber art. Her back story is interesting: she holds a marketing degree from Xavier and another bachelor’s from Indiana University, the latter in art. Lindsay works for Cincinnati Art Museum in the development department.
The title of Lindsay Mauger’s exhibit, Family Ties, is a both a play on words and an explicit reference to her inspiring parents. Her father, Raymond Mauger, collaborated with Lindsay on the interactive copper piece and the red-hot lips. Shelley Mauger is the creator of the basket featured as a display device for two of her daughter’s artworks. In the didactic materials, you can read Lindsay’s story of how her family helped develop her interest in art-making.
Of course, there are “ties” a-plenty in this show! Is this what we called macramé? Are we now using the updated term “knotting”? Take a look at this young artist’s version of that technique as well as her other expert pieces in batik, weaving, dyeing, felting, drawing, graphic design, sculpture, and wheel-thrown pottery. Members were invited to participate in the interactive artwork in this exhibit!
Lindsay was honored at a reception on Thursday, October 4 at 5:30 p.m. Many members and guests came early for the meeting that evening, enjoyed light refreshments and socialized with our exhibiting artist and her invited guests.
