In the first class students will complete a practice sampler by punching lines & shapes to learn the basics and develop their technique, select a pattern for their set of coasters, create a color plan and begin to punch their first coaster. As the process can be time consuming the week in between the two classes will give the students ample time to complete punching the first and second coaster.
The second class will consist of having the students using iron-on pellon backings, turning a hem using E-Z Steam pellon strips, gluing cork backing to their works and perhaps adding a beaded edge.
The consumable materials fee includes:
- 3 – 11” x 11″ pieces of Weavers cloth, 1 for practice and 2 for making two coasters
- 10 skeins of DMC embroidery floss for practice & beginning on coaster designs
- 2 – strips of E-Z™ steam two- sided fusible tape1 – 5” x 10” #906F pellon backing for coasters
- 1 – 5” x 10” #71F pellon backing for coasters
- 1 – 5” x 10” adhesive cork backing for coasters
- 1 – Instructor-made instruction booklet
All other equipment & supplies will be provided by the instructor.

Cynthia (Cindy) Malora-Sturdevant, a Cincinnati, Ohio native, received her Master of Arts in Art Education in 1979 from the University of Cincinnati College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning. Retired after 30 years as an art instructor for the Wyoming City Schools she currently lives and works in her Mt. Lookout home.
Cynthia spent one year as a Cincinnati Bombshell contributing numerous crocheted pieces for 13 installation sites in Cincinnati including the “Truly Newly Fiber Chihuly” exhibited in the Great Hall of the Cincinnati Art Museum for the Arts Wave Campaign of 2012.
Her most recent exhibition venues include The Clifton Cultural Arts Center, The YWCA Women’s Art Gallery, The Fitton Center for the Creative Arts, The Cincinnati Women’s Club, ArtWorks, The Kennedy Heights Art Center, Xavier University Art Galleries, and the Weavers Guild of Greater Cincinnati, of which she is a member.
Depending on the CDC guidelines for Hamilton County at the time the class is held, a mask may be required. If so, you will be notified before the first class.
Unless specifically stated, Weavers Guild classes are designed for ages 18 and above. On a case-by-case basis, a minor may be permitted to register for a class but must be accompanied by a registered adult who agrees to assist the minor during the class. Contact the Education Committee Chair at classes@weaversguildcincinnati.org for permission before registering any minor in a class.
Fees are non-refundable. Your fee will only be refunded if the class is canceled or changed to a different date. Three registrations are required for a class to be held. Students will be notified before the start date if a class is canceled due to an insufficient number of students. Eventbrite processing and credit card payment fees will not be refunded if a student cancels for any reason.
