Dates: Tuesday July 23 & Friday July 26, 9:30am – 12:30pm each day. Ticket: $70. Materials fee: $5. Instructor: Robin Burgess. Skill Level: Advanced Beginner. Must be able to knit and purl in the round on circular needles and double-point needles. Class Size: 8
Most fiber artists have lots of small balls of yarn that are too small to use alone but too big to throw away. In this class you will turn your bits of yarn into a magic yarn ball with as few as three or as many as thirty colors, then use the ball to knit a colorful slipstitch pattern hat and add the topper of your choice.
Homework is required to successfully complete this class. Before the first class, you must knit the hat ribbing. Before the second class, you must knit the body of the hat and be ready to shape the crown. The instructor will send detailed instructions after you purchase your ticket.
Supplies to bring:
- Partial balls of yarn, any weight from #1 Fingering to #4 Worsted. The hat is designed for worsted weight yarn, but lighter yarns can be combined in the magic ball to match worsted weight. So bring your #2 sport, and #3 DK too!
- US 6 & US 7 16” circular needles and a set of US 7 double-pointed needles. If you are usually have to change needle size to get gauge, contact the instructor to discuss the needle size you should bring.
- Your usual knitting tools: scissors, tape measure, short ruler (6″-12″), stitch markers, row counter, yarn needle, safety pin or locking stitch marker
- Small crochet hook, yard stick, and pompom maker or tassel maker (if available). The instructor will have a limited supply of these tools available to borrow during the class if you don’t have your own.
- $5 materials fee payable to instructor on first day of class. Cash or check only.
- beverage and snack
