Learn how to custom dye long animal fibers.

Date: Thursday, July 17, 9am-12. Sales end: July 10. Ticket: $40. Instructor: Jennifer Myka. Materials fee: $30. Skills Needed: none. Class Limit: 6. Class Location: 2nd Floor. Minimum Age: Any age, but children must be accompanied by a paid adult who will assist them.

In this vibrant hands-on class, you’ll dive into the colorful world of dyeing long animal fibers such as Suri alpaca, mohair, and wool. These luxurious locks are perfect for adding movement, dimension, and character to your weaving, felting, or embellishment projects—and you’ll learn how to custom dye them with depth and flair.

Whether you’re new to fiber dyeing or looking to expand your techniques, I’ll walk you through the process step-by-step, from choosing your palette to applying color in a way that enhances the natural beauty of the fibers. You’ll learn how to layer and blend acid dyes to create multidimensional effects—from subtle gradients to bold, saturated hues.

I’ll provide everything you need, including luscious long locks ready to dye, gloves, supplies, and all dyeing equipment (yes, I’ll bring the microwave and portable dryer too!). You’re also welcome to bring your own clean, protein-based fibers to experiment with, and I’ll show you how to get the best results from whatever you bring.

By the end of class, you’ll have a shimmering array of hand-dyed locks ready for your next fiber adventure—and the skills to keep exploring on your own.

Additional locks and supplies will be available for optional purchase.

Supplies to Bring:

  • Optional: Clean, protein-based fibers of your choosing.
  • $30 materials fee payable to the instructor at start of class. Cash or check only accepted. The materials fee includes a curated selection of premium long locks, disposable gloves, and the use of acid-dyes.
  • beverage and a snack if desired.
