Learn the basics of traditional tapestry weaving.

Dates: Sundays, 9:30am – 12pm, May 31 & June 7,14 & 21. Sales end: May 24. Ticket: $110 + Eventbrite fee. Instructor: Catherine Orsini. Materials fee: Harrisville Highland for sale if needed. Skills Needed: desire to learn, imagination. Class Limit: 5. Class Location: 1st Floor. Age Range: adult.

This class is 4 week beginner course in traditional tapestry weaving. Students will begin with a warped frame loom and create samples of the various techniques: meet and separate, hatching, vertical growth, angles and curves, shape building and bundling.

The course is designed to teach the techniques of tapestry weaving. Tapestry weaving is a fun art form in which we use yarn to create images. It is based on a simple plain-weave structure. This combination of simple structure, various techniques and multi-colored yarns allows creation of a huge range of images and effects. It is also a lot of fun to do!

I fell in love with Tapestry weaving 5 years ago when I took a class from Rowe Schnure using a cardboard loom. Since then I’ve taken classes and/or workshops with some well known weavers.

My goal for this class is that you enjoy tapestry, bring home a project you’re proud of and want to continue the journey!

Supplies to Bring:

  • 5 tapestry needles or bobbins, scissors, a frame loom, a fork or tapestry beater, wool for warp. I’ll have seine twine available for the first class.
  • Cash or Check for optional Harrisville Highland yarn purchase.
  • Snack and beverage if desired.
