Wednesday, May 19 and Friday, May 21
7pm-9pm (both days)
Instructor: Judy Dominic on Zoom

Experience Level: Beginner
Class Limit: 12
Soft books can encompass anything from a child’s activity book to a sewing needle case, to an earring travel case and anything in between or for whatever use you can imagine! The nature of the materials used make a soft book ideal for sticking things in and through, bending without regard to tearing and in general, lessens the chance for destruction from use. Some basic bookmaking techniques will be highlighted (e.g slot and tab, pamphlet stitch, dos-a-dos, scroll and meander), to create one or more unique soft books from layers of cloth, commercial felt, and/or shrunken wool sweaters. Simple embroidery stitches will give you a means to personalize the book(s). Suggested materials to have on hand: quilt/fabric scraps, an old sock, felted wool sweater, commercial felt, embroidery floss. Tools to have on hand: cloth scissors, pins, basic sewing needles and thread, thimble, tape measure, blunt and sharp tapestry needles.
Students are welcome to contact the instructor, Judy Dominic, between class times for any questions, problems, design consulting.
