Ruby reds, carnelian oranges, and rusty browns–we’re looking to push the boundaries of this storied natural dye plant to a variety of hues. This class will help with harvesting madder roots from the Guild’s garden, learning about how to process the roots for dye, and then hands-on dyeing using modifiers to produce three shades on wool mini-skeins.

Amber Rose Ostaszewski is an artist, educator, and author who has been fascinated with textiles since childhood. She draws on her heritage to inspire her creative practice and is passionate about regenerative, natural materials, including processing and spinning fiber, natural dyes, and the creation of mindful, intentional textile work. Her work has been published with the New York Botanical Garden’s Steere Herbarium, Wovenutopia, and Piecework Magazine. She recently has shown work at Wave Pool Gallery via the One Year, One Outfit Project as Artist in Residence with the Rust Belt Fibershed, taught at the National Education & Fiber Conference in Burlington, KY, and regularly teaches at Sew Valley and the Weavers Guild in Cincinnati. She is the President of the Weavers Guild of Greater Cincinnati and a board member of the Rust Belt Fibershed.

If you are not feeling well, please contact the instructor instead of coming to the class. On a case-by-case basis, we may be able to reschedule you into a future class or provide a make-up lesson. Ticket fees are not normally refunded.

Depending on the CDC guidelines for Hamilton County at the time the class is held, a mask may be required. If so, you will be notified before the first class.

Unless specifically stated, Weavers Guild classes are designed for ages 18 and above. On a case-by-case basis, a minor may be permitted to register for a class but must be accompanied by a registered adult who agrees to assist the minor during the class. Contact the Education Committee Chair at classes@weaversguildcincinnati.org for permission before registering any minor in a class.

Fees are non-refundable. Your fee will only be refunded if the class is canceled or changed to a different date. Three registrations are required for a class to be held. Students will be notified before the start date if a class is canceled due to an insufficient number of students. Eventbrite processing and credit card payment fees will not be refunded if a student cancels for any reason.
