Learn the three methods of drafting shadow weave – Threading on Opposites, Block Design, and Parallel.

Dates: Sat Oct 5 – Sun Oct 6, 2024, 9 am – 4 pm both days. Ticket: $150 member / $175 non-member. Instructor: Deb Todhunter. Materials fee: $35. Skills Needed: Intermediate – must be able to set up a warp more complex than plain weave or completed the BW 301 class at the Greater Cincinnati Weavers guild and read a draft. Class Limit: 15 students, 10 minimum

Students will be given an overview of the difference between the three methods of drafting shadow weave – Threading on Opposites (Atwater), Block Design (Powell), Parallel (Lang and Voolich). Students will then then weave examples of all three of these weaving drafts. The materials fee for each student is $35 which includes a notebook with the drafts, the treadlings, extensive bibliography, and notes.

Deb has always been interested in all things textile. After taking copious weaving workshops on a variety of subjects, she offered to develop a class for her local guild. That was 17 years and about 14 workshop topics ago. Having started out as a librarian, she enjoys the research, learning about the structures, and most of all she enjoys sharing what she has discovered with others. The resource materials she creates are meant to be used, referenced, and serve as a jumping-off point for the student’s further exploration. There’s always something new to learn and discover, and so much to share with other weavers!
