Spinning on a Charkha Wheel
Wednesday, January 8 – 9:30am to 2:30pm
Instructor: Pat Maley
$60 WGGC members / $85 non-members
+ $5 materials fee payable to the instructor
Class Limit: 6
Level: Ability to spin a continuous yarn on a wheel or spindle.
A Charkha wheel can be as small as a book or as large as a table top wheel. It uses a wheel driven spindle and is very portable. In this class learn the basic workings of charka wheels, how to adjust a charkha, how to spin and ply on a charkha, and tips and tricks for advanced spinning on a charkha. The Charkha was originally used for cotton, but is a great way to spin any short or fine fiber. We have book and briefcase sized Charkhas, and upright charkhas to try. Bring your own and tune it up or use ours. We will spin cotton and another short fiber. If you have any down fibers or short wool, bring it to experiment.
Bring a lunch and beverages. (A refrigerator and microwave are available to use.)
