Skills requried: Know how to warp and do plain-weave on your loom. Know how to operate your sewing machine.
Class Limit: 6
In this class, you will learn to weave some basic tapestry techiques on your pre-warped loom (tapestry, rigid heddle, or table loom.) You will finish your woven piece at home and return the following week to learn how to sew a lined zippered pouch.
Students need to bring these materials the first week:
- Your loom pre-warped with #10 crochet cotton**
- Yarn from your stash in a variety of thicknesses, textures, and colors. (I encourage everyone to bring plenty and share. I will bring some of my stash too!)
- Weaving supplies: shuttles, yarn needles, scissors, etc.
Students need to bring these materials the second week:
- Sewing machines with zipper foot (We have one machine available for use at the Guild.)
- Needles and thread for hand sewing (Coordinate color with your weaving.)
- Cotton lining fabric, slightly larger than your woven piece (At least 1/2″ per side.)
- Zipper long enough for the width of your woven piece. Longer is better than shorter.
- Your finished woven piece with ends knotted (Keep 2-3″ of “fringe” on each end.)
- Sewing scissors
** Instructor will send out warping information once you’ve registered.
