Join Judy outside at the Guild house for a random weave workshop for those interested in learning the basics of this basketry technique. Rattan reed will be used to form orbs that can be hung or stacked. Make one for the Guild garden and one for yourself! Take a mess of material and put some order into it as you learn a couple basic starts and the principles of random weave. As a technique that is more suited to sculptural than functional forms, random weave manages to gracefully maintain the integrity of the structure. The few rules that govern this technique are meant to be broken!
This class is the beginning of something BIG at the Guild. The dye garden group has planted our own willow for a woven fence and possible a larger scale outdoor structure to form an outdoor art experience during our 75th anniversary. Get in early to learn the basics for our larger scale project. All levels of basketry expertise welcome.
Materials to bring:
- Pruning shears would be nice but not necessary as we can share.
- An old bath towel and/or apron.
- Gear for working outside: sunglasses, appropriate clothing, water/snack, sunscreen.
- $30 materials fee payable to the instructor.
Three registrations are required for this class to be held. No refunds unless the class is canceled or the date changed.
