The Structures Study Group meets on the third Thur The Structures Study Group meets on the third Thursday of the month to study different weave structures. This guild year they are focusing on Krokbragd, a traditional Scandinavian weave, mostly attributed to Swedish and Norwegian weaving traditions. The structure of Krokbragd is a 3-shaft point twill that is packed tightly (beaten) to completely hide the warp threads. The Krokbragd pieces above are table runners and mug rugs woven by members Terri B and April F. 📸Terri B
Throwback Thursday to Swatch Watch, September, 198 Throwback Thursday to Swatch Watch, September, 1988 Weavers Guild of Greater Cincinnati Four Harness Turned Huck Woven by Roz Weston The inspiration swatch for this fabric came from Anne Martinez, a member of the Handweavers Guild of Connecticut. She had used many fine cotton yarns together for the warp and a heavier weft, to use as a folding screen. She wove it without the four tabby shots between the turned spots, giving vertical lines of texture. The soft texture of the Shetland tends to lose the pattern. A harder yarn would be more satisfactory. Roz thinks this would make a nice blouse material in fine threads set at 24 or 30 e.p.i., or baby blankets in fine wool. (Of course, silk would be elegant!) There were also 2 classes going on upstairs in the classrooms, Weaving 201 and Spinning 101. Our hearts and rooms were full! 💕

Throwback Thursday to our Swatch Watch from 1981! Throwback Thursday to our Swatch Watch from 1981! June 1981 Weavers Guild of Greater Cincinnati FOUR HARNESS HUCK Our huck sample for this month was woven by Joan Wolfe and threaded and woven to resemble monk’s belt. It is a two block pattern but looks like a four block pattern. By examining the threading draft you see that the A block is 9 threads wide 121212121 and B block is 3 threads wide 434. When treadled this combination of the two blocks weaves as one large dark area of pattern and the second half of the threading draft weaves as the light side. This second half Is treaded so the A block is 3 threads 121, and the B block is 9 threads reversing the first half. The treadling requires two shuttles, one tabby like the warp and one pattern shuttle of turquoise wool (or color of your choice). The fabric is reversible with the dark areas on top becoming light on the back and vice-versa as is done with summer and winter. The sample was laundered and steam pressed. (35½” wide/shrank 3” 3yd 15”long/shrank 5”) Warp: 5/2 cotton Weft: same as warp for tabby wool rug yarn for pattern

Study them . . . and marvel at the many art techniques that our talented exhibitor has mastered. You’ll be able to visit our gallery on February 14 from 10-2 during Second Saturdays at the Guild. The opening reception for Debbie’s show on Sunday, February 15, 2-4 p.m. Debbie will give an artist’s talk at our March 5th meeting after the business session concludes. The evening begins at 6:30 p.m.
