CALL TO ARTISTS: Natural Dyes and Dyeing
WGGC MEMBERS’ CHALLENGE EXHIBIT, January through March 2027
It has been years since the guild had a challenge. This exhibition will focus on natural dyeing processes and the growing, harvesting, and collecting of natural dyestuffs. Here are the guidelines:

- Each submission must have clear evidence of the use of at least one natural dye. For this show, the definition of “natural dyes” will be “coloring agents extracted directly from botanical, invertebrate, or mineral sources.”
- Submissions might include finished weavings; knitted, crocheted, or sewn garments or functional pieces (for example, tablecloths or napkins); felted objects; spun yarn; roving or fleece battings; or even actual dye materials (for example, dried plant matter that can be displayed).
- Each member may submit at most three pieces. If a member wants to submit a series, the committee can be consulted about the limit on the series size.
- The exhibitions committee will curate the show to best represent guild members’ wide variety of technical skills and interests, levels of creativity, and relationships of the objects in the gallery. Note: The committee will attempt to display all submissions, though that may not be possible depending upon the number and type of works offered.
- There will be viewers’ choice awards by member vote.
- Submissions will be due in January. Details about dates and drop-offs will appear in future Weaverbirds and on Circle.
