Designer Sanjay Garg, 2012

Raw Mango is at the forefront of making saris more fashionable for a younger generation. Designer Sanjay Garg simplifies traditional motifs, combining them with bright colors and a mix of silk and cotton thread to make lighter, more wearable garments. The pallu or end of this sari has 108 small crows in pink, with one woven in green.
Open to interpretation, 108 has long been an auspicious number in Hinduism and yoga. It is viewed as the number of the wholeness of existence. It also connects the sun, moon and Earth. The average distance of the sun and moon to the planet is 108 times their respective diameters. These and many other connections give rise to the ritual significance of the number. Garg’s Raw Mango designs and colors find their roots in Indian philosophy and tradition. This label adapts traditional aesthetics to create simpler, sophisticated, and contemporary designs that are both indigenous and modern.
