Joy’s mother taught her to sew, crochet and embroider when she was growing up. While attending college in the early 1980’s she took a weaving class with Jeannette McMillan Pruis and fell in love with weaving. In 2006, she took another beginning weaving class at the Weavers Guild with Millie Stratton and has been weaving ever since. She had the good fortune to have Millie be a weaving mentor for a few years after taking that class. This gave her the confidence she needed to be an aspiring weaver and fiber artist. About 2 years after taking that class with Millie she was asked to teach beginning weaving at the Weavers Guild. She’s been teaching and developing our beginning level classes ever since. From 2016 to 2018 She completed and was certified for Levels 1 & 2 of a Master Weaving Program from Olds College located in Alberta, Canada. Olds College offered these classes in Yadkinville, NC. Recently, Joy’s began weaving yardage to sew into garments. She’s pleased to report that she completed her first garment using her handwoven fabric. She loves weaving and teaching and mentoring others in developing their own weaving abilities.
