Dye Garden Crash Course

Friday March 15th 2024, 6pm-8pm

$30 for the class

Material fees. $10 for the packet and a variety of seeds to plant.

Skills needed: Beginner–green thumb not required!

Looking to grow some natural color in your own garden? This class will get you looking forward to spring and getting your hands in the dirt by covering types of dye plants suited to the Greater Cincincinnati region, how to start them from seed, and suggestions on how to raise them, even in containers and other small spaces. Participants will go home with a printed packet with helpful gardening tips and a selection of seeds to get growing including: indigo, black hopi sunflowers, cosmos, black knight scabiosa, and marigolds. This class is geared toward those who have little to no gardening experience–we’ll get you up to speed so you have a super successful first year of dye plants!

Supplies to Bring:

  • pen for taking notes!
  • $10 materials fee payable to the instructor at start of class. Cash or check only accepted.

Amber Rose Ostaszewski is an artist, educator, and author who has been fascinated with textiles since childhood. She draws on her heritage to inspire her creative practice and is passionate about regenerative, natural materials, including processing and spinning fiber, natural dyes, and the creation of mindful, intentional textile work. Her work has been published with the New York Botanical Garden’s Steere Herbarium, Wovenutopia, and Piecework Magazine. She recently has shown work at Wave Pool Gallery via the One Year, One Outfit Project as Artist in Residence with the Rust Belt Fibershed, taught at the National Education & Fiber Conference in Burlington, KY, and regularly teaches at Sew Valley and the Weavers Guild in Cincinnati. She is the President of the Weavers Guild of Greater Cincinnati and a board member of the Rust Belt Fibershed. Website:www.amberroseostaszewski.com.

Depending on the CDC guidelines for Hamilton County at the time the class is held, a mask may be required. If so, you will be notified before the first class.

Unless specifically stated, Weavers Guild classes are designed for ages 18 and above. On a case-by-case basis, a minor may be permitted to register for a class but must be accompanied by a registered adult who agrees to assist the minor during the class. Contact the Education Committee Chair at classes@weaversguildcincinnati.org for permission before registering any minor in a class.

Fees are non-refundable. Your fee will only be refunded if the class is canceled or changed to a different date. Three registrations are required for a class to be held. Students will be notified before the start date if a class is canceled due to an insufficient number of students. Eventbrite processing and credit card payment fees will not be refunded if a student cancels for any reason.
