This class will explore variations on plain weave including structural and non-structural techniques.

Dates: Wednesday, July 24, 2024, 9:00 am – 4:00 pm. Ticket: $80. Instructor: Lorain Pettit. Materials fee: $5-$20.Class Limit: 10. Skills Needed: Must be able to warp a loom independently, or register for the Rigid Heddle Loom – Learn to Warp class prior to this class if using a rigid heddle loom.

This class will explore variations on plain weave including structural and non-structural techniques. The class is open to anyone interested in weaving without worrying about the precision needed in a traditional weaving experience. Floor, table or rigid heddle looms are appropriate for this class, as long as they can produce plain weave. If you do not own a loom, rental of instructor loom is $15 or guild looms are available free of charge first come first served. Come and join us for a day of fun exploration in weaving.

Supplies to Bring:

  • Loom dressed for weaving, scissors, shuttles (2) and any yarns you want to use as weft. Instructor will also bring yarn and other items for use as weft. Warping instructions will be sent to participants prior to class.
  • $5 for supplies and handouts.
  • optional $15 for rental of guild loom. Contact instructor prior to class.
  • materials fees payable to the instructor at start of class. Cash or check only accepted.
  • Your lunch and beverages.

Problems registering? Contact the Education Committee at classes@weaversguildcincinnati.org.

Questions about this class? Contact the instructor, Lorain Pettit at lorain.pettit@gmail.com.

Lorain has always been someone who enjoys “playing with string”. In addition to knitting, dyeing and weaving she also spins, crochets and needle tats. She is a lifelong resident of Northern Kentucky and currently lives in Florence with her dog, cat, fish and an embarrassingly large amount of string.

If you are not feeling well, please contact the instructor instead of coming to the class. On a case-by-case basis, we may be able to reschedule you into a future class or provide a make-up lesson. Ticket fees are not normally refunded.

Depending on the CDC guidelines for Hamilton County at the time the class is held, a mask may be required. If so, you will be notified before the first class.

Unless specifically stated, Weavers Guild classes are designed for ages 18 and above. On a case-by-case basis, a minor may be permitted to register for a class but must be accompanied by a registered adult who agrees to assist the minor during the class. Contact the Education Committee Chair at classes@weaversguildcincinnati.org for permission before registering any minor in a class.

Fees are non-refundable. Your fee will only be refunded if the class is canceled or changed to a different date. Three registrations are required for a class to be held. Students will be notified before the start date if a class is canceled due to an insufficient number of students. Eventbrite processing and credit card payment fees will not be refunded if a student cancels for any reason.
