Experience the African art of Kawandi Quilting.

Dates: Sun, Jul 19, 1pm – 5pm. Sales end: Jul 12, 5pm. Ticket: $50 + Eventbrite fee. Instructor: Judy Dominic. Materials fee: $3. Skills Needed: none. Class Limit: 8. Class Location: 2nd Floor Large Weaving Room. Minimum Age: 18 years old – 108.

Using the very forgiving method of Kawandi quilting, create a unique 6-8” square table mat. The technique comes from Siddi women, African diaspora people in Western India. If you can thread a needle, you can do this spiral technique!

The instructor supplies batting material plus a collection of fabric scraps for use. Will also bring along an iron/mat.

Supplies to Bring:

  • a selection of sharp needles
  • thread/s, (regular sewing thread and/or embroidery floss)
  • handful of straight pins, thimble, one piece of cloth no more than 9 inches square to be used as the backing
  • any scraps you wish to use up (think thin fabric as you will be hand stitching!)
  • optional: personal light/extension cord.
  • snack and beverages if desired
  • $3 materials fee payable to the instructor at start of class. Cash or check only accepted.

Depending on the CDC Guidelines for Hamilton County at the time the class is held, a mask may be required. If so, you will be notified before the first class.

Unless specifically stated, Weavers Guild classes are designed for ages 18 and above. On a case-by-case basis, a minor may be permitted to register for a class but must be accompanied by a registered adult who agrees to assist the minor during the class.

Fees are non-refundable. Your fee will only be refunded if the class is canceled or changed to a different date. Three registrations are required for a class to be held. Students will be notified before the start date if a class is canceled due to an insufficient number of students. Eventbrite processing and credit card payment fees will not be refunded if a student cancels for any reason.
